The initiators of this project are a Swiss entrepreneur and entrepreneurs from Tunisia with main activities in the wholesales of bio-dynamic food in Switzerland and Western-Europe.
The need for sourcing dates corresponding to their quality standards and a good partnership to farmers from Hazoua, a traditional cultivation area for dates, let to the development of this project.
The project is not limited to the processing and exporting of dates to Europe; but more importantly it includes the education of local farmers in modern plantation techniques, changes in cultivation practices and introduction of appropriate varieties. These activities let to a lasting revitalization and increasing yields of the date production. Today, 160 families are benefiting form this project and about 200 tons of dates are exported.
